Energy management for a net-zero future
Challenge to impact
The Crown Estate supports the growth of clean, renewable energy offshore, creating new green space and delivering more energy-efficient buildings. The Crown Estate aims to create greener, healthier, and more sustainable places for future generations. As part of this ambition, it has committed to becoming a net zero carbon business by 2030 and, not long afterward, climate positive.
At its foundation, energy management involves collecting and analyzing data to make informed decisions on reducing energy usage and costs. A critical strategy is to create more energy-efficient buildings within the Crown Estate, balancing energy demand in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way. Energy management will involve users within the Crown Estate being aware of their electricity consumption patterns and adjusting them according to the availability and price of electricity. Smart meters, dynamic pricing, and feedback mechanisms can all help energy users make informed decisions about their energy use. We adopted a supportive strategy for energy management, including: Audit of various sites to review energy consumption, Identify ways to reduce usage and energy bills, Create a plan to install more energy-efficient options like heat pumps, industrial electric boilers, and other technologies, Review current lighting and advise reducing usage and costs, such as installing LED lightbulbs and motion sensors, Promote behavior changes to keep in line with achieving Carbon Net-Zero, Work to develop plans to optimize current assets, including repairs and maintenance, and Monitor the real-time condition of your site to spot energy-saving opportunities.
Implemented a Green Eerngy Strategy for the Crown Estate and put in place Sky Sparks energy management software to achieve and monitor incremental gains.
